| STAMFORD, CT - April 9, 2009 More than 22 million Americans suffer from asthma, including nearly six million children and two and a half million people over the age of 65. While asthma cannot be cured, proper education and treatments can allow people with asthma live normal, active lives. To help improve asthma awareness and care, Stamford Hospital is hosting a World Asthma Day event on Saturday, May 2.
Dr. Johnnie A. Lee, the City of Stamford's Director of Health and Social Services, will start the day with the discussion of "Asthma in Stamford: A Public Health Perspective." Several Stamford Hospital physicians will also offer presentations, including:
· "Are My Asthma Medications Safe?" by Dr. Paul Sachs, Director of Pulmonary Medicine and Pulmonary Rehabilitation; 11:00 - 11:45 a.m.
· "Asthma in School Age Children" by Dr. Hossein Sadeghi, Director of Pediatric Pulmonology; 12:30 - 1:00 p.m.
· "How to Avoid Asthma Triggers" by Dr. Mitchell R. Lester, Board-certified in Allergy, Immunology and Pediatrics; 1:00 - 1:30 p.m.
· Q&A for Panel and Raffle: 1:30 - 2 p.m.
The free program will take place from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Stamford Hospital's Tully Health Center in the Brace Auditorium, 32 Strawberry Hill Court, Stamford. Registration with refreshments will take place in the Exhibit Hall from 10 - 10:30 a.m. The event includes a raffle, lunch and panel discussion, as well as an exhibit of patient education materials and demonstrations.
