Education & Organization Development

At Stamford Hospital, lifetime learning and career development are integral to our corporate goals. In the Education and Organization Development department is is our objective to provide the educational programs, tools and resources our employees need to pursue the highest possible levels of professional and personal growth.

We offer programs such as New Employee Orientation, Emerging Leader, New Manager Orientation, Leadership Academy, Fellowship Academy, on-line Regulatory training and a variety of staff development programs.

New Employee Orientation

The pathway we provide our employees begins at their New Employee Orientation and continues throughout their career. In addition, we provide, management, leadership and interpersonal development programs in the classroom and on-line.

Time and attention is taken to identify and select new staff that not only have the technical competence to provide outstanding care to our patients, but that also "fit" within the culture of Stamford Hospital.  Our values of teamwork, accountability, integrity, respect and compassion are thread throughout everything we do at Stamford Hospital so making sure that we have the right staff in place is key to our customer and employee satisfaction. 
Our New Employee Orientation is a major step to making new employee's feel welcome.  In fact, in our June 2009 Press Ganey Employee Partnership survey, "making new employees feel welcome" was identified as our #1 strength.

New Employee Orientation is 3-day program where time is spent getting to know Who is Stamford Hospital?, regulatory requirements for working in a healthcare environment and coming to a very personal understanding of our Planetree philosophy of care.  During this time, we welcome the newest members of our Stamford Hospital team and engage in activities that help you to "experience" our values.

Management and Leadership Programs

Stamford Hospital is an organization where all leaders lead by example and are champions of our mission, vision and values. To prepare our leaders of today for tomorrow's healthcare challenges we offer: 

Emerging Leader
The Emerging Leader program is designed to provide the foundation for leadership growth and development.  Through a variety of classroom courses, participants learn to fully transition from an active team member to a leader. Topics may include:

  • Managing Conflict
  • Rewards and Recognition
  • Delegating for Growth
  • Making the Move into
  • Management

New Manager Orientation
All new managers receive one-day orientation which provides an overview of Human Resources policies and procedures, Budgets, Corporate Compliance, and Kronos time-keeping.  It is offered in a classroom format.

The Leadership Academy
The Leadership Academy is available to leaders to help them maximize their effectiveness at the organizational, team and one-on-one levels.  Curriculum includes classroom training in areas that align with strategic goals and focus on elevating performance and encouraging cross-functional collaboration.  Instruction may be provided by the Education and Organization Development staff as well as through partnerships with a variety of vendors.

Fellowship Academy
The Fellowship Academy is a two-year program focused on cultivating the growth and development of leaders who have the potential to make leadership contributions to our organization.  It is offered through the Advisory Board and culminates into an outcome oriented, multi-disciplinary action learning project focused on organizational initiatives and personal growth points for participants. 

Online Regulatory Training

Stamford Hospital uses provides the resourcesan on-line learning management system for employees to meet their annual regulatory training requirements.  The system also includes a library of clinical courses that have been evaluated for continuing education credits.

Staff  Development

Courses are offered to all employees in areas such as customer service, team building, communication skills, time and meeting management.

Organization Development

We offer a variety of design and facilitation services such as teambuilding, department retreats and focus groups. All of our programs are designed to initiate skill development and support our organizational goal of going from "Good to Great".
