Healthy Choices Project

No amount or kind of health information can ever replace the advice of a healthcare provider. However, better healthcare may begin with access to better quality health information.

Nowadays the Internet offers us vast amounts of health information. The volume of information can be confusing as it is often difficult to decide what information is valid, up-to-date and trustworthy. Healthy Choices can help.

Healthy Choices is a program offered through Stamford Hospital and several Fairfield County public libraries to help guide your search for reliable, up-to-date, and understandable health information online. The participating libraries are: Darien Library, Ferguson Library (Stamford), Norwalk Public Library, and Wilton Library Association. See below for contact information.

Healthy Choices consists of the following:

  • Healthcare Information Presentations
Qualified healthcare professionals will offer presentations and lectures on a variety of topics, ranging from diabetes management and heart disease to osteoporosis and avian flu.
  • Hands-on Computer Training Classes
Specially trained librarians will offer hands-on computer classes using freely-available, high-quality health information resources and databases provided by the National Library of Medicine, including MEDLINEPlus and NIH Senior Health.
