Urogynecology
The Southern Connecticut Center for Urogynecology provides consultation services and comprehensive medical-condition management for women who suffer from lower urinary-tract disorders and pelvic floor dysfunction. Commonly, these syndromes include urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, fecal incontinence, overactive bladder and interstitial cystitis. Incontinence and prolapse are both manageable and treatable and should not be thought of as inevitable or shameful. Our goal at the Southern Connecticut Center for Urogynecology is to deliver personalized, comprehensive care to each woman who seeks our services.
Evaluation
The diagnostic laboratory at Stamford Hospital features an impressive array of technologically advanced diagnostic equipment, designed to assist in the identification and treatment of a variety of illnesses and conditions. Multichannel urodynamics, electromyography and cystourethroscopy can be performed in our comfortable office setting. Utilizing this sophisticated technology, women can expect an accurate diagnosis and a comprehensive, personalized treatment plan.
Treatment Options
Pelvic Rehabilitation
This program utilizes neuromuscular stimulation and muscle contraction biofeedback to repair the function of the pelvic floor. This program has been particularly useful in women suffering from urinary incontinence and overactive bladder.
Medical Therapy
Pharmacological management of the lower urinary tract allows us to target a specific molecular cause of a patient's symptoms. New advances in this area have been particularly helpful to those women suffering from interstitial cystitis and refractory overactive bladder.
Surgery
Innovative surgical techniques and treatments, using minimally invasive technologies, are used to treat even the most complicated cases. At the Southern Connecticut Center for Urogynecology, we are able to perform 90% of our surgeries without making an abdominal incision. This means patients can expect a shorter hospital stay and look forward to a quicker recovery.
